Sadly, Rod passed away recently, but will be remembered for his long association with the Club.
I remember Rod first coming to the club in about 1965, as he was finishing his captaincy of Norwich. He had also played for Eastern Counties. He then played for Diss for a number of years, including two as captain.
He had the distinction of being Captain and President of both Norwich and Diss. He continued to support the club until poor health overtook him.
I recall Rod was born in Rhodesia, and when Ian Smith was fighting Britain for independence he was ‘called up’ by Smith to serve - which he declined.
Rod spent his working life in agriculture, with local companies, so was as well known off the rugby field as on it.
We shall miss Rod, but hope that Pat, his wife, will continue to come to support the Club.
Written by Tony Alston, who followed Rod as President.
The funeral service for Rod will be held at Roydon Church on Friday 20th March at 2:30pm.
After the service, family, friends and members are warmly invited to gather at Diss Rugby Club for refreshments and to share memories as we celebrate Rod’s life. All members are very welcome to attend.
If you wish to attend the wake please email Jess at Diss Rugby Club
