The Diss Festival started a run of 4 festivals we will be playing over the next 2 months. I went into the tournament concerned about our ability to gain turn over ball as we are much better at scoring tries than stopping them. I should not have been concerned as Diss went through the tournament winning all 4 games scoring 21 tries and conceding 14.
Our first pool game was against Stowmarket. The whole game was close but Diss were always in front with the game ending 5 - 4.
Next up we played North Norfolk Babas. This game proved to be the easiest of the day but I was really impressed with the defensive organisation shown by our team. The final score was 4 - 1.
In the last pool game we played West Norfolk. I think West Norfolk are the most improved team we have played this year. Mark their coach is obviously doing a great job as they were well organised and made it hard for us. The game was another close one with us coming through 6 - 4 in the end. This was the Charlie U game with him scoring 4 tries.
With maximum points from the pool we progressed to the Final. Our opposition were North Walsham who had also won their 3 pool games. Having been knocked out of the Holt festival by NW on first try scored in our drawn semi I was interested to see how close the teams would be again.
The final was a fantastic game of tag rugby. It was end to end stuff with both teams putting in maximum effort. Diss narrowly came out on top winning 6 - 5.
I was very proud of all the children. Everyone played their part with either great tagging or try scoring. It was also evident that we have a fantastic team spirit with everyone joining in the celebrations when we received the trophy and had photos taken on the clubhouse balcony.
I would like to thank all the parents too. Their constant support from the sideline was amazing and all the help provided around the club made for a very successful festival.
